you are basically the poster girl (or boy, i guess) of that brand. it means what you said - this person is the brand representative or model. i am not sure if they win a special position among other models, but i imagine so, since it's a very prestigious thing. & it is very common. for example, Gisele Bundchen is the face of True Religion, meaning she was featured in all the spring ads for True Religion Brand
