what is the job title for someone that builds brand new motorcycles?

I want to go to school to be a motorcycle tech, BUT i don't want to be the guy working on old motorcycles, i don't want to fix them, i want to be the one to build them from the bottom up, or top down? which ever lol if anyone can give me ANY information on this subject please tell me anything you know.. and what the best school to go to for it would be.. :) thank you very much :) -Keith Sheffield see i'd want to work for a company such as harley or triumph i just don't reallly know much about this subject, do they have specialists that build the bikes? or is it all just an assembly line/ machine assembly line type deal?

Custom motorcycle builder. You're best off to become a M/C mechanic, and learn all about bikes before trying to build them. Custom bike building is not a good bet as a career--many more such businesses fail than succeed. Edit: Sorry, I completely misunderstood your original question. Yes, any company that builds significant numbers of bikes uses assembly line manufacturing.

if you want to work for a manufacturer you wont be building any bikes,you will be on an assembly line putting the same part on different bikes as they roll by all day long.

Designer. Go to college and get a degree in mechanical engineering, with a minor in industrial design (or the other way round, depending on your talents). If you work hard and are very lucky you may end up like one of these course these are only the well-known ones. Every bike on the road was designed by someone. Usually there is a whole team of people, some working more on the design side, others more on the technical aspects. And an accountant telling everyone else why they can't do what they want to do. The only bikes that are built by hand from scratch are 1) racing bikes, and then only in some classes, and 2) hardcore choppers.
